Description

Turon is a sweet Filipino dish, and it’s like a dessert eggroll with banana and jackfruit filling. Poet Rozlind Silva however, beautifully uses the Turon recipe as a metaphor for overcoming colorism and seeking out one’s cultural identity. Designed by Kuya David for Pen Clique’s Poetry Art Gallery, the poem reads as follows:

Turon
Peel skin until white.
Later, seek color
Seek sweet, soft, skin, brown
Cling, desperately
Through fire
You are one again.
